Yepsen deserves re-election

I was honored to be elected in 2005 and since then I have spent the last year and a half actively representing the interests of Saratoga Springs residents on the Saratoga County Board of Supervisors. With every issue that has come before the County Board I have pushed to improve good government with improved openness and accountability.  This reform has been sorely needed at the County, which for too long has done much of its work behind closed doors and minimum public participation.

Representative government is not just about the issues; it’s also about how we do business.    I strongly believe that public officials represent their constituents most effectively when they are most accountable to those they are elected to serve.  We have accomplished much but there is a long way to go before County government can truly call themselves a partner with the people of Saratoga.  Once again, I give you my pledge to strengthen that relationship. Please consider supporting my campaign for re-election.

Racing

The future direction of racing will help determine the future financial and cultural health of Saratoga Springs.  The new franchise must benefit us economically, but it must also preserve the historical significance of the most beautiful racetrack in the country.

  • Co-initiated the Race Course Preservation Coalition. The coalition aims to protect the historic qualities of the racing complex and establish local oversight in any structural modifications of the race course's buildings.
  • Serves on the County Racing Committee

Preservation & Protection

Maintaining the balance between economic growth and open space continues to be both a challenge and a necessity.  Our City Council has jurisdiction over the City’s planning and zoning policies, directions and decisions, as do each of the other communities in the county.  One of my motivations for running for County Supervisor stemmed from the fact that everything that occurs in surrounding communities affects our quality of life here in Saratoga Springs.  We need a strong working relationship with our neighbors to maintain our identity as “the city in the country.”

  • Regularly attended County Open Space Committee meetings, representing concerns of Saratoga Residents
  • Voted for the adoption of the recently approved County Green Infrastructure Plan

Strengthening Our Community

It has also been my privilege to provide support or assistance to a number of important community initiatives.

  • Working on the successful endeavor to save the historic Fredrick Allen Lodge
  • Joining Saratoga Springs veterans in renovating the War Memorial in Congress Park
  • Spearheading the initiative to secure the promised $12 million from Senator Bruno for the City Center expansion
  • Encouraging safety and trail systems along Geyser Road before any more deaths or accidents occur;
  • Assisting residents on Lake Lonely with removal of a log jam adding to their flooding problems with potential funds from Army Core of Engineers
  • Founding the first eastern US chapter of Grants to You, a program that educates non-profit staff and board members on grant writing and research.
  • Sponsored Sunshine Week, a program that addresses the ways citizens can have a role in shaping the future of our community.
  • Continues to advocate for an increase in funding for the County’s Farmland and Open Space Preservation Grant Program, to more actively and aggressively protect our remaining open spaces and farmland.
