Yepsen Helped to Clear Lake Lonely Dam

We took advantage of the beautiful weather to paddle up the Kaydeross from Saratoga Lake this week.  We heard that work was being done to remove the large "dam" that has been collecting near the mouth of the Kaydeross over many years. In the past, we have been stopped in our tracks by the build-up of tree limbs, floating debris, trash and maybe some work by beavers.  This time were very happy to be greeted instead by the huge neat piles of trees on either side of the stream and an open passageway.

We've heard talk of removing this impediment for a long time, and we are happy to share the news that it is finally a reality.  We want to thank the people who worked to bring this project to fruition, especially Supervisor Joanne Yepsen.  She followed through on requests to address serious problems the dam was causing after heavy rains as water backed up and flooded the beaches and some houses close to the shores of Lake Lonely, which is connected to the Kaydeross .

It appears the contractors did a good job. It is now possible to take small boats through the shallow area where the tree-fall dam used to be.  Paddlers will be thankful to have a clear path up the Kaydeross again. And we hope that this also means that flooding will be reduced on the shores of Lake Lonely.

Thank you Supervisor Yepsen!
